What's Up With That?

What is it with men who can't resist those industrial size cans of food?

We were at the grocery store today, and my husband kept bringing me huge cans of food: pasta sauce, whole peeled tomatoes, sliced olives, jalapenos, and boiled peanuts, not to mention gallon jars of salad dressing. Each time Hubby approached me with an item, his face lit up like a child's on Christmas morning, I tried to look loving and patient. Grinning expectantly, he did an excellent job of pointing out the dollar value of each item; and although I acknowledged his arguments as sound, I gave him an equally sound argument on the waste, once opened, of food products we would rarely use. It was nearly heartbreaking to watch him sulk back up the isle to put each can back on the shelf.

I do have to mention that I relented on the pasta sauce, and purchased two cans. I will use it, at some point in the future, to make large batches of spaghetti sauce which I will then freeze. So it was a great deal at $3.00 a can. That said, I also have to mention, to my chagrin, that I said "yes" to one more bulk value item. Hubby really wanted it. So, loving him as I do, and feeling guilty about saying "no" so many times, I smiled and said "yes" to a 22 lb. box of garlic butter bread sticks. In my defense, they were only $4.00!

Even now, hours later, I can hear Hubby, seated at his own computer in the other room, mumbling about a craving for bread sticks and marinara...
